After a hiatus spanning 17 years since the dissolution of OutKast, André 3000 has unveiled plans to drop an album of flute instrumentals titled “New Blue Sun” on November 17th.

The artist, renowned as one half of the acclaimed hip-hop duo, OutKast, alongside his collaborator Big Boi, achieved prominence with some of the most celebrated hip-hop releases of the 1990s and early 2000s. Since their parting in 2007, André 3000’s musical pursuits have been confined to guest appearances, collaborating with the likes of Beyoncé, Anderson. Paak, and Gorillaz.

According to André 3000, the album’s inception occurred during collaboration with Tyler, the Creator. Speaking to NPR, he recalled, “I remember I had maybe four songs, and I was just kind of testing it out ’cause I wanted to see how a younger audience would perceive it. I live in Cali now, so I reached out to Tyler for him to check it out, and I went to his house.”

While “New Blue Sun” marks André 3000’s first official solo project, fans may remember the double album “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below” as his initial foray into solo work. Despite its classification, many enthusiasts regard it as André 3000’s debut solo effort, with the duo splitting their solo projects but selling them together on one disc.

Beyond his occasional guest verses, André 3000 has delved into acting, portraying Jimi Hendrix in the 2013 film “All Is By My Side.” Public appearances have showcased his involvement in diverse and eccentric musical projects, including impromptu flute performances on public transport. Additionally, OutKast reunited for a tour in 2013.

Anticipating the album’s release, André 3000 expressed, “New Blue Sun was something that I realized, whoa, I really want people to hear it. I really want to share it. That’s my only gauge. I have to like it as a person, as an artist myself because if I don’t like it, I can’t expect nobody else to like it.”

“New Blue Sun” is scheduled to drop on November 17th, 2023. Check out the cover art below.
