Amanda Abbington has recently addressed her departure from Strictly Come Dancing.

The BBC announced on Monday that the Sherlock actress would not be making a return to the ballroom competition, having missed the live show the previous Saturday.

Amanda has now conveyed her “profound regret” at the necessity to withdraw. While she did not divulge the specifics behind her decision to leave, she emphasised that it was not a choice made lightly or hastily.

In a statement shared on her Instagram, she expressed, “It is with the deepest regret that I had to depart from Strictly. This decision did not come easily or casually, but due to personal reasons, I am unable to continue.

“It was an absolute delight collaborating with my fellow contestants. They are a wonderful, diligent, and immensely talented group of individuals whom I hold dear and will miss sharing Fridays and Saturdays with, as well as competing alongside.”

Amanda extended her gratitude to “the remarkable production team and everyone on Strictly who took care of me and were so kind and considerate.”

“It’s a fantastic group of people, and I’ll miss them all,” she expressed.

“I’m truly saddened that I can’t proceed any further. Thanks to all who voted and sent such wonderful and uplifting messages. You’re all incredible. Truly. Thank you. xxx.”

After the news of Amanda’s departure from the show, her professional dance partner, Giovanni Pernice, paid homage to her on Instagram.

Accompanying a snapshot of them in costume for their Movie Week Rumba, set to Gabrielle’s “Out Of Reach” from the film “Bridget Jones,” Giovanni wrote: “Amanda… I’m deeply saddened that we can’t continue, but I’m proud of what we accomplished, and I’m sending you an abundance of love.”

It was officially announced last week that she had received a pass to this Saturday’s Halloween special due to her inability to perform owing to health concerns.

Amanda’s departure signifies that there are now 10 remaining couples in the competition, all vying for the coveted Glitterball trophy.

Tune in for the next episode of Strictly Come Dancing this Saturday at 6:40 pm on BBC One.
