“EastEnders Enthrals Viewers with Christmas Murder Shocker, Prompting Speculation on Future Twists in Walford”

The recent Christmas Day revelation of a murder plot on EastEnders has left fans reeling, yet many are already anticipating what might unfold next in Walford.

BBC One’s beloved soap has officially announced Whitney Dean’s (Shona McGarty) exit and the return of Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff). However, the reasons behind these character developments remain shrouded in secrecy.

Footage of cast members filming funeral scenes has emerged, hinting at a forthcoming departure, supposedly for Aunt Sal. Despite this, some devoted viewers suspect it might be a deliberate misdirection.

As we approach 2024, the Daily Star delves into potential storylines for the Square over the next year, stirring anticipation among eager audiences.

Shona McGarty confirmed her departure from her role as Whitney Dean after an impressive 15-year stint, with the announcement made in August this year. Speaking to Inside Soap, the soap star mentioned, “It wasn’t an easy decision because I’ve made so many friends.”

Her exit from Walford is slated for 2024, sparking speculation among fans about the manner in which she will bid adieu to Albert Square. According to Bard AI, an AI “creative” tool, there’s a possibility that Whitney might depart Walford under somber circumstances.

The prediction reads, “Given the considerable trauma she’s faced, she may reach a breaking point where she feels she can’t endure more. Her departure could involve a tragic end or a quiet disappearance from Walford without a trace. Whatever drives Whitney’s exit, it’s anticipated to be a gripping, emotionally charged event. Showrunners aim for a memorable departure for a character who’s been integral to the show for 15 years.”

Reiss exposed

Fans have been following the journey of Reiss Clowell (played by Jonny Freeman) and Sonia Fowler (portrayed by Natalie Cassidy) as they embark on IVF treatment, aiming to become parents together. Reiss is married to his wife, Debbie, who remains hospitalized in a long-term coma following a stroke suffered in the bath. Facing financial struggles, Reiss resorted to taking money from Debbie’s bank account to finance their plans for a baby—a detail he has not disclosed to Sonia.

Some viewers suspect that the couple’s hopes for a baby might face an unexpected hurdle. Anticipating a dramatic twist, viewers are convinced that a relative of Debbie might make an entrance in the neighbourhood, stirring up plenty of trouble. On social media, one person on X, previously known as Twitter, speculated: “I wonder if one of Debbie’s relatives will come to Walford before she wakes up to expose what Reiss has done with her money?” Another viewer suggested: “I reckon Debbie is going to wake up and disrupt this storyline completely.”

Funeral twist

Actors from EastEnders were seen filming funeral scenes in November, leading to speculation that Aunt Sal, played by Anna Karen, might meet her end in the upcoming year. Peggy Mitchell’s sister hasn’t appeared on screen since 2017, but The Sun reports that she’ll receive a significant farewell in episodes scheduled for 2024.

Nevertheless, certain fans strongly believe that another significant character might actually be the one in the coffin. One fan expressed on X, “Aunt Sal’s funeral is a decoy.”

Carter family drama

EastEnders has confirmed the return of Johnny Carter to Walford in 2024, after a five-year absence from the Square. Chris Clenshaw, the boss of EastEnders, stated, “Though it’s been almost five years since we last saw Johnny on the Square, his character remains intertwined with the show and its iconic venue, The Queen Vic. With significant changes in the Carter family dynamics during his absence, it’s evident that Johnny will be rejoining a markedly different Walford than the one he left behind.” As fans eagerly anticipate his return, they’ll have to stay tuned to uncover the exact reasons drawing him back, especially with his mother Linda Carter’s recent struggle with alcoholism and his father Mick Carter still nowhere to be found.

EastEnders airs on BBC One from Monday to Thursday at 7.30 pm.
