Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, has officially declined participation in the upcoming revival of Celebrity Big Brother, her representatives have affirmed.

Rumours circulated on Christmas Eve suggesting that ITV executives were contemplating a substantial monetary offer, potentially reaching hundreds of thousands of pounds, to enlist Ferguson for the new series scheduled for 2024.

In November, the broadcaster confirmed the return of the Big Brother spin-off to screens next year, following the successful reboot of the standard format in October, which culminated in lawyer Jordan being crowned the victor.

A representative for the 64-year-old duchess has dismissed the rumours, stating, “This story is utterly untrue. The duchess has no intention of participating in this programme. It’s widely acknowledged that she doesn’t engage in reality TV formats.”

Similarly, a spokesperson for Celebrity Big Brother clarified that any circulated names linked to the show are purely speculative.

The anticipated return of the ITV programme in 2024 will feature a cast of well-known personalities residing in the Big Brother house. Throughout the series, they’ll engage in weekly nominations and challenges while cameras capture their every move.

The reality show, both the celebrity and “civilian” versions, last aired on Channel 5 in 2018 before being discontinued due to declining ratings.

The Duchess has recently made appearances on several ITV talk shows. She joined Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary as a co-host on This Morning last month and even guest edited the ITV1 show. During the episode, she shared that she had been approached every year to appear on the reality show ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’.

Additionally, she participated as a panellist on Loose Women in November to support the launch of its Don’t Skip Your Screening breast cancer campaign.

Earlier this year, the former member of the British royal family underwent an eight-hour single mastectomy operation and reconstruction after discovering an early form of breast cancer during a routine mammogram, which she almost missed.

This appearance marked Ferguson’s first time on television since revealing her diagnosis. Speaking openly to presenters Christine Lampard, Coleen Nolan, and Brenda Edwards, she shared her initial fears about not being there to witness her grandchildren grow up. “I really want to stress this: Don’t skip your screening appointment, because I wouldn’t be sitting here if I hadn’t gone,” she emphasized during the segment.
