BBC Bargain Hunt personality addresses accusations of ‘assault and coercive behaviour’

Charles Hanson, famed as an auctioneer on the BBC’s Bargain Hunt, has issued a statement in response to allegations of actual bodily harm, assault, and involvement in controlling and coercive behaviour.

These accusations stem from a domestic incident in Derbyshire, prompting police response to an address in Quarndon back in June.

Hanson faces two charges of ABH, two assault charges, and the charge of engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour.

Scheduled for January 10, the 45-year-old Hanson will appear at Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court, having been released on bail.

Representatives acting on behalf of Hanson have addressed the charges in a statement, asserting: “I refute all allegations. I have never exhibited aggression or acted unlawfully towards my family.”

Renowned for his role as an auctioneer on the BBC’s Bargain Hunt, Charles Hanson has issued a statement following charges brought against him for actual bodily harm, assault, and allegations of engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour.

The charges stem from a domestic incident in Derbyshire, prompting officers to respond to an address in Quarndon back in June.

Hanson is confronted with two counts of ABH, two counts of assault, alongside the charge of controlling and coercive behaviour.

Scheduled to appear at Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on January 10, the 45-year-old Hanson was granted bail pending his appearance.

Representatives acting on behalf of Hanson have addressed the charges.

In the statement released on Hanson’s behalf, it stated: “I refute all accusations. I have never exhibited aggressive or unlawful behaviour towards my family.

“Despite enduring challenging times in our marriage, it is regrettable that this has taken a legal turn.

“I intend to fully cooperate with the investigation and legal proceedings,” he added in conversation with Express.co.uk.

Speaking to Sky News, he reiterated, “I refute all allegations. I am committed to fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation and legal process.”

A spokesperson from Derbyshire Police also commented on the charges, stating, “The force responded to reports of a domestic incident at an address on Church Road, Quarndon in June 2023.

“A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of assault and subsequently released on police bail as inquiries progressed.

“On December 14, Charles Hanson was charged with seven alleged offences: Assault/ill treatment/neglect or abandonment of a child/young person to cause unnecessary suffering or injury” and “assault/ill-treat/neglect/abandon a child/young person to cause unnecessary suffering or injury.”

In addition to his appearances on Bargain Hunt, Hanson has featured on the BBC’s Flog It! and Antiques Road Trip.
