Criminal inquiry initiated following discovery of missing man’s body in Salford

An investigation into a homicide is underway following the discovery of a deceased man in Salford.

The individual, now identified as Tanyaradzwa Julius Matara, was found near a residence in Higher Broughton on Thursday, 7th December 2023.

Mr. Matara, aged 43, had been reported missing since late October.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police located Mr. Matara’s body in an area between Great Cheetham Street West and the Salford & Broughton Cricket & Football Club.

Upon the scene, two men were apprehended, and subsequently, a third individual was also arrested, all under suspicion of murder.

They have been released on bail while further investigations take place.

Detective Chief Inspector Rachel Smith of GMP’s Major Incident Team expressed, “Firstly, my heartfelt sympathies go out to Julius’s family during this deeply distressing time. I urge that they be given the space and privacy to mourn their loss.

“Our relentless efforts led us to search for Julius, marked as a high-risk missing person since late October. The news of his passing is profoundly saddening, and it’s the culmination of extensive collaborative work to locate him.

“As evidenced in our earlier updates, our investigative pursuits aimed to gather crucial details surrounding Julius’s unfortunate demise.

“I extend gratitude to the Salford community for their patience and cooperation throughout our search efforts. I acknowledge the gravity of this case and its impact on the local residents.”
