The former Culture Secretary’s appearance on the ITV programme to promote her book about the disgraced former Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, led to a significant decline in viewership.

During her questioning by hosts Rylan Clark, 35, and Emma Willis, 47, Dorries defended Johnson regarding his alleged involvement in Partygate, asserting he was away from London during the law-breaking events.

This comes despite Johnson, 59, becoming the first PM in British history to be convicted of breaking the law and receiving a fixed penalty notice for the scandal.

Dorries’ support of Johnson provoked outrage among viewers on X, previously known as Twitter, with many expressing their dismay at ITV for providing her with ‘airtime.’

One disgruntled This Morning viewer, Alison, expressed her frustration, saying, ‘Why am I subjected to this resentful woman fixated on Johnson, spreading her negativity on a light-hearted entertainment show? ITV, have you shifted towards extreme right views? If so, I’ll cease watching. #ThisMorning.’

Sharing Alison’s viewpoint, Jon Wallace expressed frustration: ‘#ThisMorning and ITV are aiding this shameless grifter’s promotion. Switching channels immediately.’

The Showbiz Secrets X account bluntly stated, ‘Nadine Dorries is despicable,’ while Sohail Shah questioned, ‘Why provide airtime to this woman? Improve your standards.’

Numerous viewers were puzzled by 66-year-old Nadine, a former Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport, repeatedly mispronouncing the name of one of the UK’s most cherished presenters.

Hannah Cassidy highlighted on X: ‘The consistent use of “RylanD” by Nadine Dorries during her interview on #ThisMorning is quite astonishing. Former Secretary of State for Digital, Culture & Media, ladies and gentlemen.’

Back in June, Dorries confirmed her resignation as an MP with an immediate effect.

She shared on Twitter at the time: ‘Today, I’ve informed the chief whip of my decision to step down as the MP for Mid Bedfordshire, effective immediately.

‘It’s been a privilege to represent such a fantastic constituency, but it’s time for someone younger to take the lead.’

Dorries became an MP in 2005 and has been an outspoken opponent of Rishi Sunak’s Government since he took office at No 10.

Her appointment as culture secretary under Johnson’s guidance positioned her as the key advocate for the now-abandoned proposal to privatise Channel 4.

Throughout her tenure in Parliament, she courted controversy, notably losing the Conservative whip in 2013 after participating in ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!.

You can catch This Morning on ITV, airing weekdays from 10 am.
