The television competition, hosted by Sue Perkins, followed a troupe of celebrities journeying to the Alps for a series of challenges centred around sculpting snow.

Backed by a team of skilled sculptors, engineers, and snow artisans, the stars were tasked with conceiving and crafting some of the most remarkable snow creations ever witnessed on television.

Their artistic endeavours were critiqued for their form and artistry by Swedish sculpting siblings Sara and Emilie Steele, alongside esteemed British artist and sculptor Taslim Martin.

Past participants in these specials included Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, Jonny Vegas, and Gemma Collins.

Despite drawing an average of over 1.8 million viewers during its run in 2021 and 2022, the show has seemingly been axed from future programming.

The broadcaster’s upcoming Christmas TV lineup notably excludes the show ‘The Greatest Snowman’, raising questions about its status within Channel 4’s schedule. Despite showcasing specials of popular series like ‘Late Night Lycett’, ‘The Piano’, and ‘The Last Leg’, Channel 4 has yet to confirm if ‘The Greatest Snowman’ has been completely scrapped, contradicting reports from TV Zone.

In anticipation of the show’s premiere, Channel 4 had teased the series, highlighting famous personalities braving the cold to craft remarkable structures from snow and ice, teasing a final challenge to create ‘The Greatest Snowman’.

However, upon its debut, viewers were left perplexed, as they were expecting the 2017 Hugh Jackman film ‘The Greatest Showman’ instead. The confusion led to disappointment among many tuning in for the anticipated snow-based competition.

In the 2021 special, Dani Dyer, actor Johnny Vegas, TV host Cherry Healey, former Great British Bake Off contestant Liam Charles, and interior designer Laurence competed. While some viewers anticipated watching the critically acclaimed musical drama featuring Hugh, Zac Efron, and Zendaya, titled “The Greatest Showman,” they were surprised to find a different programme.

A baffled viewer expressed disappointment, stating, “We were excited to see The Greatest Showman tonight, but turned over to find it’s #thegreatestsnowman. Very disappointing.”

Despite the initial mix-up, fans later praised the show as an ‘absolute treat’ that helped them embrace the Christmas spirit.

Metro.co.uk has reached out to Channel 4 and representatives for Sue Perkins for their comments.

“The Greatest Snowman” is available for streaming on Channel 4.
