Beloved BBC Strictly Come Dancing professional receives overwhelming support from colleagues as she reveals a poignant personal update
Australian dance professional Dianne Buswell garnered the backing of her fellow BBC Strictly Come Dancing colleagues following her update on the well-being of her father, Mark.
Strictly Come Dancing professional Dianne Buswell has provided an update on her father’s health as she gears up for the BBC show’s Blackpool Week.
In an earlier segment of the Strictly series, the Australian dancer disclosed that her dance partner Bobby Brazier had been her pillar of support during what she described as a ‘challenging’ period. Initially, her remarks sparked speculation about potential strain in her long-term relationship with former Strictly partner Joe Sugg.
However, it later emerged that the 34-year-old was actually referring to her father, Mark, who had been swiftly admitted to the hospital due to severe health concerns. Dianne subsequently clarified on Instagram, saying, ‘I wanted to be open and candid with all of you. Last week, I received some distressing news about my father’s health, and though I won’t delve into specifics, it has undoubtedly impacted me.
Dianne persisted, expressing, “It’s rather challenging to be away from home and unable to provide support to one’s family during times of need. I did find last week quite a struggle in that regard.”
Dianne has provided an update, revealing that Mark is currently undergoing his initial round of chemotherapy. Sharing a photo of him with her 970,000 followers, Dianne expressed, ‘Dad, I’m immensely proud of you. I wish I could be there by your side, holding your hand through this challenging time.
‘However, I’m glad to know that I’m making you proud with my performances in my concerts here. Even the Australian nurses and doctors are familiar with ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ now, as my dad can’t stop talking about it. You’ve got this, Daddy. xxx.
Dianne’s fellow Strictly professionals swiftly sent their well wishes to her father, particularly Amy Dowden, currently battling cancer herself, who led the responses. “Sending all my love to the entire Buswell family,” she wrote. “Mark, you’ve got this, and soon it will be a distant memory! Looking forward to 2024, where you’ll be watching Dianne perform live in concerts. Keeping you in my thoughts.”
Vito Coppola chimed in, saying, “Your smile says it all. Mark, you’ve got this, and once this is all behind us, we must plan a great Food Day. Starting in the morning and going till evening (or maybe the next day). Meanwhile, take the time you need and keep fighting while you enjoy watching your beautiful and incredible daughter @diannebuswell shine every week during the ‘concert’.”

In a previous episode of Strictly, Dianne was reportedly distressed by “harsh comments” following EastEnders actor Bobby’s declaration of affection towards her. Sources close to Dianne revealed that she felt disheartened after facing a barrage of insults from online fans.
An insider shared with The Mirror, “The unkind remarks directed at her regarding her relationship with Bobby – who has been incredibly supportive – have deeply affected her. Her relationship with Joe remains strong, and he has also shown immense support publicly, unequivocally standing by her side.”
