Louis Theroux discovers a message from Kate Moss at Pete Doherty’s residence
Pete Doherty finds himself taken aback as he is discovered keeping memorabilia from his previous relationship with Kate Moss.

In 2005, the lead singer of The Libertines crossed paths with the supermodel during her 31st birthday celebration at her Cotswolds mansion. A romantic connection swiftly blossomed between them, sparking a two-year relationship that thrust them into the limelight as one of the most widely discussed celebrity couples. At one point during their time together, the now 44-year-old Pete publicly announced their engagement while on stage.
Their union was marked by a whirlwind of attention-grabbing moments, notably when Kate, captured in a controversial photograph, was seen snorting cocaine during a recording session for Pete’s band Babyshambles. The ensuing scandal resulted in the loss of several lucrative modelling contracts for Kate, including a substantial £4 million deal with H&M.
Despite the media storm, the couple soldiered on until their eventual split in 2007. In a recent interview with Louis Theroux at his residence in Normandy, Pete has disclosed that he has retained some of his ex-partner’s personal belongings.

While guiding the broadcaster through his studio in anticipation of their televised conversation airing tonight, Pete displays surprise as Louis notices a suitcase adorned with a striking label.
In a sneak peek, Pete informs Louis that the assorted items he has gathered over the years are “artefacts from the shipwreck of my life.”
“That grabbed my attention,” Louis remarks, gesturing towards a suitcase bearing a monogram that reads: “Kate Moss – Do Not Touch.”

“Oh my goodness, I’m aware, and mine too! I witnessed that. Initially, I had no clue what it was. I assumed it was merely an ancient suitcase with various items inside,” he responded.
“Then suddenly, I opened it, and there it was. Do not handle.”
The duo then bantered about the label, finding it somewhat superfluous as the warning message was inscribed within the object.

Louis then presented a photograph of the duo from years past, prompting Pete to jest, “This is making it now look like I have an old locker full of Kate Moss memories.”
He went on to recount spotting her in a recent Diet Coke advertisement and even offered an impression of her from the ad.
In his 2022 memoir, “A Likely Lad,” Pete delved into numerous aspects of his two-year romance with Kate, including their eventual split. He explained that there wasn’t a singular incident that concluded the relationship but rather that their worlds were ultimately incompatible.
During their time together, Pete battled addiction to crack and heroin. Last year, he openly acknowledged that his substance abuse played a significant role in the breakdown of their relationship.

“Kate Moss was never involved in visits to crack dens,” he shared with The Irish Times. “She never had any interest in that lifestyle, and, to be honest, that’s the reason our relationship ended.”
During the interview with Louis, Pete also candidly discussed his battles with addiction and the enduring impact it has had on his life. He opened up about his current tranquil life in France with his wife and baby daughter.
Reflecting on his journey to sobriety, the musician admitted he was ‘still reeling from the shock of getting clean.’ He acknowledged that years of drug use had taken a toll on his mortality, and he expressed doubt about being around long enough to witness his daughter’s wedding.
Louis Theroux Interviews… is broadcast on BBC Two at 9 pm every Tuesday and is available for streaming on iPlayer.
