Coronation Street star Sam Aston and his wife Briony joyfully announced that they are anticipating the arrival of their third child. The couple, already parents to Sonny, aged three, and 18-month-old Daisy, excitedly shared that the upcoming addition to their family is going to be a girl. Sam disclosed that their impatience led them to discover the baby’s gender through a blood test.

However, amidst the happy news, the couple revealed a poignant twist to their journey. Initially expecting twins, they experienced the loss of one due to ‘Vanishing Twin Syndrome’. Briony described the situation as “very bittersweet,” acknowledging the mixed emotions surrounding the pregnancy. Having previously spoken about two miscarriages after Daisy’s birth, Briony expressed gratitude for the impending arrival of a healthy baby girl.

Reflecting on the unexpected revelation, Sam, who portrays Chesney Brown on the show, confessed to being “shocked” upon learning about the initially anticipated twins. Despite the challenges, the couple remains grateful for their growing family and the blessing of a healthy baby on the way.

“In the initial moments, one ponders, ‘What would life have been like with twins? A son and a daughter, perhaps?’ As Briony aptly puts it, the sentiment is undeniably bittersweet, yet we find ourselves immensely thankful that the other baby is perfectly healthy,” he shared with OK! Magazine.

Briony, taken aback by the revelation of expecting a girl, confessed, “I was strongly convinced it was a boy right from the start. We even had a boy’s name ready. So, discovering it’s a girl makes me wonder if the lost twin was a boy.”

Anticipating the arrival of their baby girl in Spring, Briony is opting for another home birth. “There’s nowhere else I’d prefer to be,” she admitted. “That’s the plan. We’ll see how it goes.”

Reflecting on their previous home birth with Daisy, Sam added, “It was a straightforward and beautiful experience. The birth felt serene, being at home. Afterward, we enjoyed some toast and a cup of tea, then back in our own bed. It was truly euphoric. So, it would be wonderful to repeat that. Seeing how happy it made Briony was lovely too.”
