The Disney streaming service Hulu is reportedly in the process of developing a new series based on the beloved drama, which originally featured Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell.

However, the reboot will not include the original cast and will instead focus on different characters within the same world.

Elgin James, co-creator and showrunner of Mayans M.C., is leading the project, with the show’s creator, Paul Scheuring, serving as executive producer, according to Deadline.

This revival comes three years after Dominic hinted on Instagram that a sixth season was in progress, stating: ‘Will season pb 6 happen. Yes.’

Wentworth, who is openly gay, had previously made it unequivocally clear that he would not return to Prison Break, having vowed never to portray a straight character again.

“I’ve exited the [Prison Break] series. Officially,” he posted on Instagram in 2020. “Not due to backlash on social media (although that has brought attention to the issue). I simply no longer wish to portray heterosexual characters. Their narratives have been extensively explored.”

Prison Break chronicled the journey of Michael Scofield (played by Wentworth Miller), who was determined to free his brother, Lincoln Burrows (portrayed by Dominic Purcell), from wrongful incarceration for murder.

Debuting in 2005, the show spanned five seasons and received nominations for accolades such as the Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Drama.

Following his breakout role in Prison Break, at the age of 51, Wentworth Miller went on to feature in several television series, including Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and the medical drama House, alongside Hugh Laurie.

Subsequently, he transitioned into roles within DC superhero series such as The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, as well as the political drama Madam Secretary.

In the realm of cinema, Wentworth ventured into screenwriting, crafting the thriller film Stoker, initially using a pseudonym for his work.

When discussing his choice to keep his identity hidden, he revealed to Movieline in 2011: “I just wanted the scripts to sink or swim on their own.”

Stoker, starring Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode, and Mia Wasikowska, received positive reviews and garnered a 70% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Dominic maintained his collaboration with Wentworth after Prison Break concluded, contributing to productions such as Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash.

At present, he is in the midst of filming Cassino In Ischia, assuming the role of a former action star who finds himself eclipsed by the emerging generation of action heroes.

Among Dominic’s additional cinematic achievements are his role in Assassin, where he shared the screen with Bruce Willis, and his appearance in the superhero film Blade: Trinity.

Prison Break can be streamed on Disney Plus.
