A British cargo vessel has reportedly sunk off the coast of Germany after a collision, and there are several individuals currently unaccounted for.

According to German authorities, two cargo ships collided in the North Sea. The vessels, named Polesie and Verity, met with the accident in the early hours, approximately 14 miles southwest of the island of Helgoland, as stated by Germany’s Central Command for Maritime Emergencies.

Regrettably, the British-flagged Verity appears to have gone under.

The emergency command reported that one person has been rescued from the water and is currently receiving medical attention. Search and rescue teams are actively looking for several others who are still missing.

It was disclosed that the ship was en route from Bremen, Germany, to the English port of Immingham.

The other vessel, the Bahamas-flagged Polesie, remains afloat with 22 individuals on board.
