The upcoming series will depict the events of the late 1990s, encompassing the final days of Princess Diana’s life.

Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki remarked that embodying her last weeks was a “singular challenge as an actor.”

Season six will be divided into two segments, with the initial four episodes slated for release on 16 November.

Once again, it will be penned by Peter Morgan, the creator of the immensely popular series that debuted in 2016.

Reflecting on her portrayal, Debicki stated, “I truly put my trust in Peter’s emotional framework that he laid out for us to follow. It’s his interpretation and I believe it resonated with me emotionally, so I held onto that. Because, naturally, it’s devastating and it’s laden with tension, and we can never truly comprehend.”

Australian actress Debicki, known for her portrayal of Princess Diana, has also graced the screen in films such as Tenet, The Great Gatsby, and Guardians of the Galaxy.
Fflyn Edwards (on the left) portrays Prince Harry, while Rufus Kampa takes on the role of Prince William in the initial segment of the sixth season.

In the concluding episode of season five, viewers witnessed Tony Blair ascending to the role of prime minister, and Prince Charles embarking on a visit to Hong Kong.

Season six captures poignant moments with images of Diana (portrayed by Debicki) seated in a car alongside Dodi (played by Khalid Abdalla). Tragically, both lost their lives on 31 August 1997, succumbing to a fatal crash in a Parisian tunnel while being pursued by paparazzi on motorcycles.

Producers, speaking earlier this year at the Edinburgh TV Festival, assured that they would approach the sensitive topic of Diana’s passing with utmost care.

Additional glimpses from season six offer scenes aboard a yacht owned by Dodi’s father, the prominent business figure Mohamed Al Fayed, portrayed by Salim Daw. Al Fayed passed away in September at the age of 94.

Prince Charles, in his earlier years, is once again brought to life by Dominic West. His sons, William and Harry, are depicted in the initial half of the season by Rufus Kampa and Fflyn Edwards, respectively.

Certain sequences seem to be set aboard the superyacht owned by Mohamed Al Fayed, who is Dodi’s father.

The Netflix series portrays real-life events but incorporates fictional dialogues between characters.

Critics have previously taken issue with the platform, arguing that it doesn’t explicitly convey to viewers that not all aspects of the show adhere strictly to historical accuracy.

In response, Netflix contends that ‘The Crown’ has consistently been presented as a dramatic interpretation rooted in historical occurrences.

The series is described as a ‘fictional dramatisation, envisioning what might have taken place in private quarters’.

Imelda Staunton is set to reprise her role as Queen Elizabeth II for the sixth season. Previously, the monarch has been portrayed by Olivia Colman and Claire Foy.

Staunton commented, ‘I’ve inhabited her character for quite some time now, so, if anything, I felt more at ease this time around. I admire her composure and her ability to remain unruffled by the constant tumult that undoubtedly surrounded her throughout her entire life’.

The Wire star Dominic West reprises his role as Prince Charles, as he was then, in the show’s sixth season
Imelda Staunton returns to her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II, a role previously undertaken by Claire Foy and Olivia Colman.

West stated that Charles possesses “genuine sorrow and genuine compassion,” highlighting how The Crown affords audiences the chance to “witness these public figures in their private moments”.

According to producers, Prince William’s attempts to reintegrate into life at Eton after his mother’s passing will be depicted.

In the upcoming sixth season, viewers can anticipate the celebration of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, as well as the courtship of William and Kate, who are presently the Prince and Princess of Wales, during their time at the University of St Andrews.
