Tragic Loss: Infant Boy Passes Away Following Ullapool Harbour Rescue

A tragic incident occurred at Ullapool Harbour in the Highlands, resulting in the loss of a baby boy following a rescue operation.

Emergency services were alerted to a distressing incident at approximately 13:20 on Monday, where two individuals were reported to be in the water.

The Police Scotland reported that the infant was swiftly transported to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness via air ambulance, but unfortunately, was pronounced deceased shortly thereafter.

A spokesperson conveyed that no other individuals required hospitalisation. An ongoing investigation is being conducted into the matter.

The spokesperson further stated, “The death is not being treated as suspicious, and a comprehensive report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.”

The rescue operation involved personnel from the Scottish Ambulance Service and HM Coastguard.

Coastguard teams from Ullapool, Achiltibuie, and Inverness, alongside the Stornoway coastguard helicopter and RNLI Lochinver’s lifeboat, were swiftly dispatched to the scene at Ullapool’s Shore Street. Additionally, the harbour staff provided assistance.
