Serious Injury for One, Nine Hospitalised Following Bus Crash in Manchester

A single individual sustained severe injuries, and nine others were transported to a hospital following a bus collision with a shop in Manchester city centre.

Emergency services, including the police, fire, and ambulance crews, were swiftly dispatched upon receiving reports of the incident at Piccadilly Gardens.

A representative from the North West Ambulance Service reported that one individual sustained severe injuries and was transported to the hospital. Meanwhile, ten others were evaluated, and out of those, nine were subsequently taken to the hospital.

Images from the incident depict the pavement sectioned off, with the front of the bus lodged inside a bubble tea shop named T4.

The North West Ambulance Service spokesperson stated, “At approximately 1.15pm this afternoon, we were called to a bus collision near Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester.”

Four ambulances, two senior paramedics, a cycle responder, an operational commander, and the Hazardous Area Response Team swiftly arrived at the scene after reports of a vehicle colliding with a building.

One individual with serious injuries was promptly transported to the hospital. Ten others were assessed, with nine requiring hospitalization. We extend our wishes for a full and speedy recovery to all those affected.

According to a statement from Greater Manchester Police (GMP), the incident occurred around 1 pm today, involving a collision between a bus and a shop in Piccadilly Gardens. GMP, along with partners from the North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue, have been on-site.

Road closures are in effect in the vicinity to facilitate emergency services’ operations. Officers from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are present, and we kindly request the public to avoid the area if possible while investigations are underway.

The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service reported that at 1:15 pm today, two fire engines from Manchester Central and Salford fire stations, along with the technical response unit from Ashton fire station, responded to an incident on Parker Street, Manchester city centre. Crews remained at the scene for approximately one hour and 45 minutes.

Howard Hartley, Head of Facilities Management at Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), stated, ‘Bus and tram services are currently unable to stop at Piccadilly Gardens while emergency services attend to a serious incident. Our staff are on hand to assist passengers and guide them to the nearest service. I urge anyone who typically uses a service in this area to check our website or social media channels for the latest updates and advice.’

Ian Wood, spokesperson for T4 UK Franchise Ltd, addressed the situation: ‘T4 UK has been notified of the bus crash at our recently opened Manchester store. Firstly, we want to extend our well wishes for a swift recovery to all those involved in the crash, and we look forward to welcoming them back to our store when they have fully recuperated. We will remain closed until we can restore the store’s operations. All staff members are safe, though understandably shaken.’

A significant police cordon remains in place as collision investigators continue their work at the scene.
