A representative from the British Antarctic Survey, the organisation overseeing the vessel, confirmed: ‘Emergency services have confirmed the successful resolution of the situation. The ship’s emergency response team promptly managed the incident, and no additional assistance was necessary.

All crew members and passengers are in good health, and no medical attention was required.’

The RRS Sir David Attenborough is under the operation of the British Antarctic Survey and was utilized in trials along the Scottish coast over the summer season.

Measuring 129 meters in length (423 feet), the ship is set to embark on its third season at the South Pole by the end of this month.

In a public vote back in 2016, over 120,000 individuals chose the name Boaty McBoatface for the vessel. However, the then-Science Minister Jo Johnson deemed there were “more appropriate” options.
