Alpamare in Scarborough has expressed “great sadness” in announcing its temporary closure, citing the exorbitant energy expenses required to heat both indoor and outdoor pools. The park will remain shuttered until spring.

Visitors who have made bookings at the facility will receive a refund within three days, while members will be reimbursed on a pro-rata basis.

The £14 million park, located in Scarborough’s North Bay, unveiled its doors in 2016, offering a range of amenities including indoor and outdoor pools, waterslides, and a spa.

In an official statement posted on its website, Alpamare stated, “We regret to inform our patrons that we cannot sustain operations during the winter months, primarily due to the persistently high operational costs, particularly the steep energy expenses associated with heating our facilities and pools in the colder seasons.”

The park further added, “This temporary closure will afford us the opportunity to conduct necessary maintenance work and enhance energy efficiency.”

Alpamare has advised individuals who have not received their refunds by 16th October to contact them via email.
